Here’s some questions I hear all the time:
Where are you based?
I’m based between Essex, London and Leeds; here in the UK.
How do I book you?
Email me. If you’re a regular student use your booking link. If you’ve lost it, go find it darling! If you really have lost it, then email me :)
(Regular students/block bookers have direct access to my calender).
How much?
Depends on what you need!
How do I figure out what I need?
Book this in - Acting Chat with Pippa
(A free 25 minute chat I offer ANYONE who wants any guidance. Ask me anything about your career, speeches, approaching agents, casting directors and all that jazz… I give you honest, helpful advice.)
Then if you want to work together? Great! If not? Equally great! Good luck on your journey babes ❤️
I want to find a lesser done Shakespeare…?
There is a limited amount of classical speeches. They’re all overdone. It doesn’t matter. Just find one that you can relate to and that gets you excited to perform it.
Why can’t I work with you in person?
Because I like my personal space darling.
Haha! In all honesty, it’s easier for time/travel and learning to audition well via Zoom/on camera is a crucial part of being in the industry these days!
That being said I am creating some in person packages. Watch this space. Sign up to my newsletter to be the first hear when I’m going 4D.
Why do I have to be over 18?
I prefer teaching adults who really want to do the work and are willing to get vulnerable and approach the work with a mature understanding. On your 18th birthday let’s have a session!
Why work with you?
You tell me, babes. Lots of coaches out there. You do you.
Should I go to University or Drama School?
If you want to be an actor, go to drama school. You can do it other ways, but why wouldn’t you want to spend three years honing your craft with the best practitioners and teachers in the industry? That being said it sin’t for everyone. YOU have to decide what is right and best for YOU.
I forgot a note you gave me, can you send me the notes via email?
No - watch your recording back.
Why do I have to be over 18?
I’m not about teaching kids; I’m about coaching adults.
I don’t want to train outside of London…?
Then you’re missing out on some of the best training in the UK.
Can you recommend some monologues to me?
No. Do that work yourself. You’ll thank me later.
Can’T you just watch one of my self tapes?
No.
Why not?
I’ll answer you with another question: Once I’ve watched it, what do you want me to do?
I’d like to know what you think…?
So; what you’re really asking is: “Can you watch one of my self tapes and give me feedback for free?”
I don’t half-arse things - and neither should you. I do enough pro bono work via YouTube.
Professionals seek guidance and mentorship.
Amateurs coast and hope to get handouts and lucky.
I work with professionals.
Are you a professional?
I want to be…
Then start acting like one ;-)
But I don’t have time!
I call bullsh*t again...
No, I really don’t…
There are other people who are busier and more hard done by than you who will find a way.
Don’t let your excuses be… well… excuses. Read this newsletter I wrote for you.
Where did you train?
I did the three year BA Hons at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School - 2012-2015.
I can’t afford you…
Then book a cheaper acting coach.
I don’t like the other coaches I’ve found…
Then save up and work with me.
What shall I bring to a session?
Your scripts, a notebook, a pen, some water… or a coffee.
Why do drama schools charge us to audition?
They need to pay people for their professional opinion in order to judge the auditions.
There is a heck of a lot of admin that goes into organising auditions.
The Arts are underfunded as it is. Just pay the fee or use the bursary services available. Maybe skip your lashes and nails for a few months and spend that money on your auditions (and furthermore, your acting career) instead.
No one is forcing you to audition to 10 schools. Audition for your top 3 and save yourself some monies.
If you’ve paid, you’re more likely to show up.
If I only audition for 3 schools, I’ve got less chances of getting in somewhere?
Then work harder and improve your odds.
I’ve found a part called Sophie, from Boys…
** YAWN **
But it’s hard to find a strong woman in Shakespeare…
I call bullsh*t. Again. Have I done that already?
There is a “strong” woman in the Shakespeares you have read, you’re just listening to the opinions you’ve heard about women in history, rather than doing your own research and carving out your own opinions.
And, you’re probably just looking at the obvious GCSE Romeo and Juliet… Macbeth etc.
If so, can we just have a moment to appreciate that Juliet is pretty badass and brave in being able to stick up for herself relentless AND have the courage to kill herself. Lady Macbeth is the driving for of Macbeth as a play and quite frankly, it should be called: “LADY MACBETH ENCOURAGES HUSBAND” but it’s not as marketable that way… even back in the 1600s. Also… Juliet’s mother is pretty loud mouthed and aggressive… The nurse is a GREAT character… need I go on?
Open your eyes.
DO. THE. WORK.
Some schools say you don’t have to do a classical…?
Is it easier to do two contemporaries? Yes.
Should you always take the easy road? Nope.
If you were auditioning now, where would you audition?
I’d audition for RWCMD and RADA. Just them. And yes I would still go do a three year course.
FAME?
I want to be respected by my industry peers.
I’m in this industry for the craft and the fun, not the accolades.
If accolades come? Great. If they don’t? Great.
If fame comes? Great. If it doesn’t? Great.
I recommend this approach.
Do you offer discounts?
Only if you block book your sessions. Otherwise, nope.
Can YOU HELP WITH ACCENTS?
I love phonetics and the art of perfecting accents. If I can do the accent, yes. If I cannot, I suggest finding a TEACHER to help you, not just Billy round the corner who happens to be Irish.
Can I book you for a workshop?
Yes. Please email me with a brief outline of what you want from the workshops, time, location or Zoom, etc. If it’s a good fit and I can help, we’ll organise. If not, I’ll probably know someone reliable who can help and I’ll point in their direction).
How long are your sessions?
55 minutes minimum, 90 minutes maximum.
Why not 60 minutes?
So I can pee between students…
